What impact do human activities have on the environment and one’s health? Dr Shannon Rutherford, Deputy Director of the Centre for Environment and Population Health, Griffith University, has explored the relationship between the environment and health. In a talk given to UIC students on 25 September, she examined the life-cycle of a product that we might consume during daily life.

Dr Shannon also gave another talk on how Australia is using health risk assessment methods to set its air pollution standards and assess population health risks associated with different air pollution levels. This talk referred to the significant challenges China faces in managing its air quality.

The talks were organised by the Environmental Science Programme, Division of Science and Technology.
